Allan Tuttle — Artists Profile

Allan Tuttle is a self-taught artist. Originally a musician, he began working in Mixed-Media and Painting in his mid-twenties and has never looked back. After spending several years in South Carolina he moved to NYC where he sold his artwork on the streets of SOHO. Allan returned to Maine in 2003 where he lives and works in a coastal town with his wife and daughter.

Allan Tuttle’s art is about contrast and unity. He strives to bring the viewer to a place of contemplation and hope. Allan’s art incorporates the Romantic and Classical ways of looking at the world, so as to make something beautiful while being mindful of meaning and underlying form.

My art is about contrast and unity. I strive to bring the viewer to a place of contemplation and hope. In the process of creating I seek balance between compositional weight and lightness, motion and stillness, the synthetic and the natural, and the moment versus the past and the future. My art incorporates the Romantic and Classical ways of looking at the world, so as to make something beautiful while being mindful of meaning and underlying form.
Allan’s work is calming and foreboding. When viewed up close, a wonderful chaos is revealed. Always fun to look at, his multi-media works are highly detailed with various textures layered on the canvas. He is extremely prolific and it would be no surprise to me if his work soon becomes popular with the masses.
