With the matrimony of emotion, cubes and color, Stephanie Clair shares her inspiration from happy, dreamy moments in life that we can all relate to, but so easily forget.
A first love, a last love, a memory, lovers sipping wine, being enlightened, inspired by sweet music... those moments are ours to remember- but the speed of time can erase the memories we all take for granted. Clair tries to capture a snapshot of that moment on canvas. Each painting has a feeling; each feeling tells a story.
Her eyes in the paintings allow the viewer to reach in and let you connect. She feels they are the windows to ones soul.
Stephanie Clair’s style is most described as a romantic form of Cubism. This 3 dimensional style allows one to look deeper into the painting; it allows the viewer to see the emotion and movement in the painting from many angles - much like the different chords in a beautiful song. Color, technique, imagination, and cubism meant to evoke mystery and emotion. Clair’s art captures a feeling and challenges the viewer’s eye and mind, as you get lost in a three-dimensional world of people passion and beauty.
Raised in upstate NY, Stephanie Clair drew her way through those cold winter days, and then soon after High school she moved to Virginia where she got a BFA in painting/design at Old Dominion University. She had enough cold to last a lifetime and now has found home in sunny San Diego.
I love experimenting with color, creating luminous, multi-layered works that welcomes the viewer into a world of magical beauty and feeling. Experimentation fuels my soul and muses my brush.
My vision, the way I see the world, is in constant evolution and so too my paintings continue to evolve. My earlier paintings are infused with the rhythms of soulful music. As I learn more about myself and the human spirit, my newer paintings explore the subtleties of relation.
When I paint people, I usually start with the eyes because I feel they are the windows to one’s soul. When I open them on the canvas it’s as if I see the world anew again and it’s my hope that I am helping others to renew their worldviews as well. I love to let my brush guide where the lines should go—free as a child’s hand would be. Every line traces a feeling, every painting tells a story.
Close your eyes and dream of a world without suffering, without war, without the politics of hatred and selfishness. Let the world become light, like clouds beneath color. See the world through the eyes of a child; innocent, colorful, dreamy - then you can follow your dreams true through life. My hope is to touch others with my dreams and my aspirations and inspire them to do the same.
